Cadence Training

When it comes to training for professional cyclists a lot of their coaches will insist that they carry out low cadence training as it will help their bodies to push the pedals much harder. but having said this both low and high cadence work as part of your training can be extremely useful for a cyclist if they are looking at ways of improving and increasing their cadence comfort levels.

It is therefore important that a part of any cyclists training should look at ways of helping to make their legs much stronger and more resilient so that they are able to handle a much wider range of cadences when they are out riding. This also means that they are much better equipped to use high force or high wattage contract when the time comes that they have actually run out of any more gears to use or they decide to climb out of the saddle in order to provide them with additional force as they push the pedals.

Certainly for any person who is just starting to train to take part in any kind of competitive cycle events they should focus their time developing speed using their own specific race cadence. It is best that they look at being able to produce a cadence of between 88 and 92 or more revs per minute. Certainly if you are only just starting out and so your body and legs are much weaker than more experienced cyclists you should be looking to aim for the higher cadence rate rather than the lower one.

As well as including race specific training into your cycling regime you should also look to carrying out some low cadence work as well as this will help to build up your resilience. plus you will find that it also helps to build up your cadence range which you feel comfortable with.
